RosePetals

I began my craft career as a doll maker and found it difficult to compete with Cabbage Patch dolls at the time so when I found a recipe for salt dough ornaments, I switched paths and began dabbling in “dough”. My first craft show displaying my ornaments showed that I had made the right change. Two years later, I found a recipe for bread dough and with the encouragement of other members of a craft co-op that I was a member of, I started creating bread dough roses which led to a thirty year career as a bread dough artist.

A lady saw my work online and wrote to tell me that if I liked working with bread dough, that I would love working with cold porcelain and she was right! I can work smaller and finer with cold porcelain which has led to a line of cold porcelain jewelry, hair accessories and cake toppers.

Bread dough and cold porcelain are similar mediums in that they are mixed at home and include the same glue which is the material that gives both mixtures the strength and durability to last indefinitely. My flowers will never wilt, fade, crumble or die!!!!

I started creating bread dough roses when my youngest daughter went off to college and sold them at craft shows and through shops and then, online. A woman wrote to tell me that if I liked working with bread dough, I would LOVE working with cold porcelain which is very similar. She went along the recipe, I tried it and fell in love with the medium, because I could work smaller and finer. I created a line of cold porcelain jewelry and wedding items which have proven to be very popular. The things I love about the two mediums that I work in are the flexibility of the bread dough and cold porcelain, the colors that I can create and the durability of the finished product
