Description

Tribal Adventure Necklace is a unique eye catching statement whenever worn (which will be often!). The one of a kind necklace features three rondelle shaped vintage black and white striped resin beads, black and white African batik horn beads and turquoise howlite gemstones. The three striped focal beads were upcycled from a vintage necklace and mimic African batik beads. Created from man made resin, they are in excellent shape and show very little wear and sport a high gloss finish. Because they are made from resin, the large beads add virtually no weight to the necklace. To add subtle glow, copper daisy spacers and small copper beads separate the rondelles from the rest of the beads.

To perfectly highlight the vintage resin beads, six fair trade batik bone beads were used, each individually handmade by members of an African artists co-op in Ghana. They are black with white accents and hints of dark brown. The batik beads are a unique shape: roundish but with three large “facets” cut on each end adding wonderful eye interest and texture. Three of these unique beads are found on each side of the necklace. Beautiful turquoise howlite gemstone rounds separated the vintage beads and batik beads. Howlite is naturally and off white stone with gray to black matix. Since howlite takes a dye easily, it can be found in a wide variety of colors, such as these soft turquoise colored beauties. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the TRIBAL ADVENTURE necklace is perfect jewelry for the woman who adores ethnic inspired jewelry and loves to wear one of a kind designs.

Catherine Waterhouse – Owner/Designer

Experiencing a life long love affair with Nature (am a self-professed “nature geek”), I am able to satisfy a strong desire to create by designing one-of-a-kind jewelry mainly using semi-precious stones and sterling or fine silver. But polymer clay, Czech glass, Swarovski crystals, copper and lampwork beads also play a huge part in the design process. My Muse is Nature, and to be inspired, I just have to look out over the amazing desert landscape where my husband, my Shadow Dog, Seamus, and I are privileged to live. My work has been sold through galleries in Virginia, Texas and South Carolina, through art shows, home shows, Facebook, Pinterest, Wanelo, Flickr and ArtFire . . . and now Indiemade. I LOVE my “job!”

I am an ardent supporter of adopting dogs from shelters.  To help the many sweeties waiting for their forever homes, I have started a line of “dog rescue” jewelry.  For each piece sold, 1/2 of the purchase price is donated to the local Humane Society.  I am thrilled and humbled that the earrings are brisk sellers both on line and at the arts festivals I attend.

Shadow Dog Designs

Shadow Dog Designs is your place to purchase beautifully unique, one-of-a-kind, handmade jewelry. The jewelry-making bug bit me hard about 13 years ago and I have been selling my designs ever then. As long as I can remember, I have always “made” something. The desire to create is satisfied by designing one-of-a-kind jewelry, mainly using semi-precious stones and sterling or fine silver, but also polymer clay, Czech glass, Swarovski crystals, and, more recently, copper and lampwork beads. I love incorporating other artists’ pieces in my work for a truly unique piece. My Muse is Nature, and to be inspired, I just have to look out over the amazing desert landscape where my husband, my Shadow Dog, Seamus, and I are privileged to live.
I am a strong advocate for pet adoption – there are just too many loving souls waiting for their forever home. To help out, I started a line of “rescue dog” jewelry about a year ago. When one of these pieces sells, 1/2 of the purchase price is donated to the local Humane Society where we adopted our sweet Seamus, the newest in a long line of Shadow Dogs.” Visit My Indie shop to see more of my designs!
